Sep 16, 2009 - Greetings! If you Google "lady seated at a virginal" you'll find images of a painting by Jan Vermeer in which a woman is, well, sitting at a virginal. So there IS an historical precedence for this, though standing may have been more common. I suppose that with Spaniards attacking all of Europe unexpectedly, the standing position made for a quicker getaway. :)
